Verification of cosmetics / INCI search
You can use this file to search for information on individual cosmetic components (INCI terms) or create a complete product profile.

It is extremely easy, as you will see. It will be even simpler and easier to understand if you take a little time to consider the following information.

Go ahead with the test…

For each INCI term (ingredient) in the INCI database, you will find a brief
explanation and an evaluation (from "very good" to "unsatisfactory").

  • Information is provided with each ingredient to indicate its main purpose (skin-care product, film former, preserving agent, etc.) and its origin, stating whether it was obtained from plants, chemicals, minerals, animal products or as a result of biotechnology.
  • Certain ingredients can have different origins. In this case, they are said to be of "various sources".
  • Certain cosmetic ingredients such as silicones and paraffins have been evaluated from various points of view. For example, silicones are kind to the skin but are unjustifiable on ecological grounds. They have therefore been given the environmental mark "deficient". Paraffins, which are frequently used as basic ingredients, do not pose an environmental problem but have no skin-care properties. Paraffins and petroleum-related substances are therefore separately attributed "deficient" skin-care evaluations.
  • Plant-based ingredients such as aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) or jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) must be declared separately depending on the type of ingredient used (oil, extract, meal, etc.) An ingredient containing almond can therefore be declared as: Prunus amygdalus dulcis extract, Prunus amygdalus dulcis meal, Prunus amygdalus dulcis oil, Prunus amygdalus dulcis protein or Prunus amygdalus dulcis seed extract.

  • This INCI file contains the basic botanical description of plant-based ingredients as well as a reference to the fact that the same evaluation applies for all variants.

    Example:

    smile+smile+smile+ Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis
smile+smile+smile+ applies to all INCI descriptions which begin with "Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis". Other ingredients which are used with many variants but for which the same mark applies are also accompanied by this type of information.

    Beispiel:

    badbad PEG-
badbad applies to all INCI descriptions which begin with "PEG" for all numbers and all collocations.

  • Most ingredients with a negative mark are accompanied by the note "See:", for example "See: Aluminium compounds" or "See: organic halogen compounds". The "high-risk substances" section contains detailed information on the reasons behind the allocation of negative evaluations.
